This page provides some detail about the Rooney family Stonemasonry history and where Rooney Stone is now:

Rooney Stone is a family business set in the heart of the Mourne Mountains in Ireland. My family have been in the stonemasonry business for over a hundred and twenty years, and are renowned for the superior quality and craftsmanship of our family stonemasons down through the years.

My uncle, James Rooney, was commissioned to undertake the construction of the JFK Memorial in Co Wexford, Ireland. He was also commissioned to construct one of the largest Celtic crosses in Ireland approximately 60 years ago. Cut from a solid block of granite, the cross resides in County Down, near the town of Rathfriland. Rooney Stone hopes to continue in the tradition of Stonemasonry and Michael Rooney (aged 11), plans to continues in Dad's footsteps (I think being able to cut stone is brilliant, I have my own tools and travel to jobs with dad when school is out! All stone dressing and cutting is carried out by hand to provide a unique and individual product, we can also cater for large scale stone projects using the latest cutting technologies. 

I have been involved in several large and renowned projects such as the repair and maintenance of the famous Mourne Wall and the restoration/relocation of a traditional 200 year old Irish cottage from deep in the Mournes to the Ulster Folk & Transport Museum .
